How to Care for Your Cake

We're thrilled to be a part of your special moments with our custom cakes at Blush Bake Shop. To ensure your cake remains as beautiful and delicious as when it leaves our studio, follow these expert tips on transporting, storing, and cutting your cake.

How to Transport Cake

Transporting a cake requires care and attention. Here’s how to do it properly:

  1. Handle from the Bottom: Pick up and carry the cake box from the bottom only; never hold it on the sides.

  2. Keep It Level: Place the cake on a flat, level surface in your vehicle. The best spot is usually the floor of the passenger side. Avoid holding the cake or placing it on a seat, as the angle can cause the cake to slide or tilt.

  3. Temperature Control: Cakes are sensitive to temperature. If it’s a hot day, turn the air conditioning on high and on the foot vent setting before placing the cake in the car. If it is winter do not blast the heat or set it to the foot vent.

  4. Drive Carefully: Sudden stops, sharp turns, and bumpy roads can damage your cake or cause it to slide. Drive slowly and smoothly to your destination.

Storing Your Cake

Proper storage is crucial to keep your cake fresh and delicious until it’s time to serve and if you have any leftovers to enjoy later.

  1. Store in the Refrigerator: Store your cake in its original box in the refrigerator on a level shelf. Do not store it on top of other items and do not store other items on top of the box. If you have any leftovers after your event, it is best to place slices in an airtight container or wrap it in plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out.

  2. Freezing: If you’d like to store your cake leftovers for a longer period, freezing is an option. Thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before serving.

Displaying Your Cake

Follow this tips to ensure a beautiful presentation of your cake:

  1. Use the correct size cake stand: Choose a cake stand that is at minimum the same size as, but preferably at least one inch larger than the cake drum (base). This will help to avoid accidents and tip-over.

  2. Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat: Do not display your cake in direct sunlight or in close proximity to a heat source. This will cause the buttercream to melt and potentially cause structural issues.

  3. Serve at Room Temperature: For the best flavor and texture, Blush Bake Shop are meant to be enjoyed at room temperature. Remove your cake from the fridge about 90 minutes to two hours prior to serving.

  4. Use a Sharp Knife: A long, sharp knife (preferably serrated) will give you clean cuts. Warm the knife by dipping it in hot water and then wipe it dry before cutting.

  5. Cut Even Slices: To maximize the number of servings, start by cutting a small circle about 2 inches from the edge. Then, cut slices from the outer ring, working your way inward. For rectangular sheet cakes, cut straight down in rows.

  6. Clean Between Cuts: Wipe the knife clean with a warm, damp cloth between cuts to prevent frosting buildup and ensure clean slices.

  7. Serving Size: Standard cake serving sizes are about 1 inch by 2 inches for wedding cakes and 2 inches by 2 inches for party cakes and are what we go by here at Blush Bake Shop. You are, of course, welcome to adjust according to your preference and the number of your guests.

Final Tips

  • Handle with Care: Always handle your cake gently, especially when moving it from one place to another.

  • Keep it Covered: When storing, keep the cake covered to protect it from dust and other contaminants.

  • Enjoy Fresh: Cakes are best enjoyed fresh. Serve your cake within a few days of pickup for the best flavor and texture.

By following these tips, you can ensure your cake remains a stunning centerpiece and a delicious treat for your celebration. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us. Enjoy your cake!
